Welcome to the first Brainwaves of 2012 right here on HWA Online.

RON MATHIS: THE HWA's MOST WANTED

Last Tuesday night, Ron Mathis made his first HWA appearance since losing the HWA American Luchacore Title to Dave Crist last month at HWA World War 3.

Mathis was not scheduled to be there, he did not have a match, but he quite obviously had an agenda.

The man who was voted Most Hated in 2011, instantly became the front runner for winning that accolade for a third consecutive year when he attacked HWA Heavyweight Champion Jake Crist.

Mathis planted Jake's head into the mat with a spinning tombstone, that cause one of the scariest moments in recent HWA history.

Those on hand stated that Jake had lost all feeling in his legs for several minutes. He was taken to a local hospital that evening and was diagnosed as having suffered a severe stinger.

The good news is it does look like Jake will be back in action at some point and that it really could have been a lot worse. Jake definitely dodged a bullet last Tuesday.

While I do not condone Ron Mathis' actions in any way shape or form, it was really only a matter of when he would perpetrate something like this.

Mathis not only lost the championship he coveted last month, he also lost any opportunity to try to regain the title for a fourth time as long as Dave Crist is champion. This was part of the contract that Mathis signed... to his credit, he is sticking to his legal obligations.

Unable to challenge for the HWA American Luchacore Title, what was Mathis going to do next?

His track record proves he isn't much of a team player. He can join forces successfully here and there when he needs to, but any long term partnerships he has been involved have ended miserably for those who trusted him. So going after the American Wrestling Warriors and the HWA Tag Team Titles was pretty much out of the question.

That left one title... THE title in the Heartland Wrestling Association. And as icing on the cake for Mathis, it was held by Jake Crist, the younger brother of the man who defeated him for the HWA American Luchacore Title in the brutal and physical Tables, Ladders & Chairs match at HWA World War 3.

With a calculated attack, Mathis could declare war on the HWA Heavyweight Champion and get under the skin of Dave Crist in one fell swoop or in this case with one spinning tombstone piledriver.

Mathis will return to official HWA action tomorrow night in Hamilton at this week's HWA Adrenaline live event and he'll be ready for some sort of retaliation, whether it is from Jake Crist himself or one of the many allies of the Crist brothers.

But there's one thing Mr. Mathis may not have thought about where his attack on Jake Crist is concerned.

There are three former HWA Heavyweight Champions, who are looking to regain the richest prize in the Heartland Wrestling Association, I'm talking about Jesse Emerson, BJ Whitmer and Gerome Phillips.

How are they going to react to Mathis in his attempt to basically cut in line and get to the top of the list of contenders by making his desire to be HWA Heavyweight Champion a personal issue with Jake Crist.

If you asked Jake Crist right now who he'd most want to get in the ring with with the options being Mathis, Whitmer, Emerson or Phillips, it is a safe bet that Jake would say he wants Mathis.

A brilliant move by Mathis on one hand, but on the other, BJ Whitmer, Jesse Emerson and Gerome Phillips aren't the type of guys who are just going to sit by and watch Ron Mathis go for the gold instead of them.

Then there's the other members of the roster, guys like "The Madness" Chris Hall and Remi Wilkins, guys who were busting their butts and working their way to title shots the old fashioned way. How are they going to feel about Mathis not only attacking a friend of theirs, but taking the low road to a championship match.

Ron Mathis has got be considered #1 on the HWA's Most Wanted list!

RANDOM THOUGHTS

Another great turn out for HWA Kickoff earlier this month. The hard working HWA roster should be commended for doing their part in keeping the fans coming back for more and for making more fans curious about the HWA product, regulars at our events in Hamilton. The special added attraction of international wrestling star, Ricochet certainly didn't hurt attendance and his match with Dave Crist was a dream match for many. I can't wait to check that one out when it becomes available on HWA Home Video... Did we really have a rare HWA appearance by former HWA Tag Team Champion Oliver (Don't Call Me Donovan) Cain at a recent HWA Adrenaline event? Was this a one shot deal or can we expect to see more from Mr. Cain in the future?... The next big weekend event for the HWA is the special Fundrayzer to assist Dustin Rayz and the massive amount of medical bills he's wrestling with since breaking his leg last November as part of a CZW event. Wrestlers from all over the Midwest as well as CZW will be coming to Hamilton on Friday February 3rd as part of this special benefit show. Fans in the area will definitely want to make plans to be a part of this special night, not only to help Dustin but to see a show like you aren't going to see anywhere else in the area... I wonder if we'll have some official announcements concerning the 2nd Annual Heartland Cup at the Fundrayzer? According to the official Twitter of the HWA, nearly 75% of the 16 men who will compete in the 2nd Annual Heartland Cup have been confirmed. HWA President Tim Tatum and his team must be working overtime!... Speaking of President Tatum, I spoke to him last week and he informed me that the web site would be getting a new look in the near future. Fans of this blog, fear not, while things will look different, I will continue to share my thoughts with you each and every month here on the web site... And with that said I want to thank you all for checking in.
