The former "Relentless" Ron Mathis gained his first bit of notoriety in the HWA by teaming up with with his mentor "Bad Attitude" Brian Beech and forming the duo known as Hardcore Religion... Hardcore Religion chased the HWA Tag Team Titles for several months in 2009, before frustration set in and "The Relentless One" stabbed Beech in the back... After the split Mathis was embroiled in a feud with Brian Beech for the latter part of 2009, a feud he shockingly came out on top of, sending his former mentor into retirement with a severely injured shoulder... Formed The International Riot Squad with Kaden Assad. The team was derailed when Assad's jaw was broken by Jake Crist... Proved he was not afraid to speak his mind and make his fair share of controversial comments as co-host of The Pulse along side Chris The Brain... Won his first HWA championship in May 2010 when he defeated Jesse Emerson to become the HWA American Luchacore Champion in controversial fashion... Mathis' impressive reign as HWA American Luchacore Champion would come to an end at HWA World War III in December 2010, when he lost to one of his greatest rivals, Sid Fabulous... Brian Beech shocked HWA fans and Ron Mathis alike when he came out of retirement and challenged Mathis to meet him in a Norwood Street Fight at HWA Hysteria in March 2011... Mathis would have the biggest match of his career as part of the First Annual Heartland Cup when he battled hardcore icon, Necro Butcher... Mathis became the first two time HWA American Luchacore Champion when he regained the title from Sid Fabulous on June 3, 2011... Mathis would lose the belt in a Falls Count Anywhere Classic at HWA Heatwave on July 16, 2011... Mathis regained the HWA American Luchacore Title from Dave Crist, breaking his own record and becoming the first three time HWA American Luchacore Champion at HWA Road To Destiny 2011 in Norwood... The war between Mathis and Dave would culminate at HWA World War 3 in December 2011, when the two battled in a Tables, Ladders & Chairs match. Dave would leave victorious that night.
